Some of my faves

I wanted to pass on some of my favorite links to other blogs. Some are Catholic, some are Christian, and some are just on subjects I like to read about.

This one I like to read and see what another Catholic mother thinks and does.

I like how this woman and her family live.

This here's a local homeschool gal!!

This one is a blog by a friend of my husbands.

And I love the crafts and sewing this one teaches.

Hopefully you guys will enjoy these as well. Send me some that you like. I think bloggers are a great way to gain and share information. Real people talking to real people.

All Saints 2010 Part 1

We are once again preparing for our schools annual All Saints party that we attend on October 31. It takes place of the pagan tradition of trick or treating. This year we have locked down 2 of the kids costumes.

Mamie will be "Our Lady of Guadalupe" and Daniel Jr. will be "St. Juan Diego". I am thinking I will try to create the rays coming off of her back with material and wire and give her a crown of stars. Daniel's should be easy. Simple pants and shirt, with a brown poncho and sombrero.

I am really looking forward to making this!! I will add pictures soon!

Boy oh Boy am I busy

As the busy summers comes to a close, I think about all that has gone on. I kept some wild and crazy fun loving kids and my kids, well, lets just say the word "energy" couldn't completely describe them. We have begun the year here and the key work this school year is "budget". Some say green, others say thrifty, here we just say "saving money."

For one, our crafting is all about recycling and reusing. All of our 4H projects will be made with as much "thrift" store finds and we can muster. The girls are making purses, bags, and hats out of old clothing. Daniel will rewire a lamp and make it new.

Cleaning is another thing we are trying to turn around. We won't be tossing out what cleaners we already own, but we are not buying things we can make a lot cheaper at home. For one is homemade laundry soap. I got this idea a few years ago from the Duggar family. We talked about it for a while and now have decided to give it a shot. Also, all purpose cleaners and glass cleaners can be cheaply made.

I am also toying with the idea of not buying a school curriculum this year and doing it myself. This will save us loads. I am a bit nervous though. But, I know with God all things are possible.

I am hoping to have the time (HAHAHA) to write on this blog more often. It's hard. I wanted to write a blog for the the busy Catholic mom, and ironically, I am one of those and don't have time to write it.

I'm Baacckk!!

I've been away for so long. I have missed the klackity klack of my keyboard. I was away for so lung due to family things. You know, those things happen, sickness, holidays, and such that never seem to come one at a time. Noooo. They have to hit you in bunches! We even got to visit the aquarium in New Orleans, see picture of my little one. But, I digress. I am back and am ready to start again.

We haven't gotten he quails yet, they come in June. But, I have a full house for summer babysitting. We, my eldest daughter and I, have begun the arduous task of planning out the days of music, crafts, library, swimming and more. I will have a healthy number of kids, 15 in all. Different ages. Different backgrounds.

I babysit, yes, even though I have 7 kids. It gives my kids some playmates and my girls even more "mommy" practice. Babies are the best training tool for young girls to learn about mothering. We divvy up jobs, changing, feeding, playing, and we all see that the others are learning and doing in right.

Among other things, we will be hitting the library hard. Two and a half months of activities geared towards reading and the arts.

Hope I can write more later. I have to go see about my kiddos!!

Alicia's 6th birthday cake was a huge success. My sis-in-law baked the cake, and made homemade fondant, and brought over all of her cake decorating supples. Alicia and all of her siblings pitched in and created quite a cake. They had sooooo much fun doing it. I am so grateful to Aunt Kacee for all of her hard work and her patience with the little ones.

SPRING Can't come fast enough

We are looking forward to spring, and soon SUMMER!! We all love to swim and play outside. This year we are getting some quail to raise for 4H and for the eggs. We are hoping we do well. I can't wait for my little ones to see the birds hatch and chirp. What a great way to teach kids about life.

Merry Christmas

The last couple of months have turned out to be quite busy in this neck of the woods. Some of the kids are gearing up for the play they are in on Monday (Frosty). We are looking forward to our upcoming school fair. And as one might expect, getting ready for the Christmas season. Which brings me to my topic of discussion, or rather, rant.

I don't like to watch the news. I get what important info I need from my husband and my local newspaper. Therefore, I did not hear the stories about our president wanting to take Christ out of Christmas. I hear he wants to call the white house tree a"holiday" tree. WHAT!! I thought the whole reason for the season was in fact Christ. It's His birthday celebration. I do not know the details about this, but it makes me sad. So as I was driving in Morgan City, a town across the river from me, I noticed the very large "Merry Christmas" banner hanging over the bridge. I am so happy that I still live somewhere where He is still king.

So to all of you out there, Catholic and not, MERYY CHRISTmas!!!!! Go have your St. Nicholas parties, enjoy decorating your Jesse trees, light your Advent wreaths, have a great birthday celebration of our Lord incarnate!!!!
